There are many reasons the community of Bixby is excited about their athletic programs. The success of the football team is the “talk of the tailgate” for many Spartans fans. One player who is dedicated to keeping the win streak alive and leaving a legacy behind for future generations is Lucas Tenison.
Lucas has played football for 12 years and is currently a senior at Bixby.
“Friday nights is Bixby are special to me because the whole community shows up to support us which really makes home games feel special,” Lucas said. “My favorite moment in a game so far was stopping Choctaw on their final drive in the 2020 state championship game.”
A lot of hard work and sacrifice goes into building a championship program like the one Loren Montgomery has built in Bixby. Lucas has played a big role in that process and loves to call his teammates family.
“The thing I love most about my team and teammates is how selfless the team is, everyone on the team works to make the team better as a whole, not just themselves,” said Lucas. “Bixby is a great place to go to school because they give students the opportunity to pursue many different interests between the classes they offer and the sports programs that they have.”
Lucas plans to attend college after graduation, but he will always remember being part of a historic time in Bixby football history.
“My plans after I graduate are to attend the University of Oklahoma to study Sports Medicine,” said Lucas. “The thing I will miss most about Friday nights is the feeling of running out of the tunnel as the crowd is cheering.”
Once the game has ended, coach Montgomery has given his speech and the locker room is clean, Lucas heads home to rest before returning to the stadium the next morning for lifting and film. At some point Lucas always finds time to grab his favorite item off the Taco Bueno menu, a Chicken Potato Burrito. For more on Lucas Tenison and the Bixby Spartans, log on to www.bixbyathletics.org
