Bixby’s Jaycie Cope
Bixby High School junior Jaycie Cope has built her soccer career on versatility, tenacity and a genuine love for competing alongside her classmates. A forward and center midfielder for the Spartans, she relishes the chance to impact the game both in the attacking third and in the heart of the field.
One of Cope’s favorite memories is helping Bixby reach the Oklahoma Class 6A state championship match, a stage she had dreamed of since she was young. The deep playoff run reaffirmed just how special the sport is to her and how much she enjoys chasing big goals with her teammates. “Soccer has taught me to always support and encourage the people around you and to always have tenacity no matter what,” she said.
That mindset extends well beyond game day. Cope credits her parents for shaping her work ethic and perspective, describing them as extremely selfless and hard-working. “My parents inspire me because they are very hard workers who have provided me with so much love and support,” she said, noting the many sacrifices they have made for her and her siblings.
Inside the halls at Bixby, Cope points to her ninth-grade Spanish teacher, Mrs. Rangel, as a favorite. “She is always so positive and joyful,” Cope said. On the field, teammate Kate Bulleigh has left the biggest impression, thanks to her constant encouragement and caring presence.
Cope’s favorite part of representing Bixby is suiting up with her peers and stepping into rivalry games that bring out the best in everyone. She also leans on a piece of advice that has become a daily reminder: you never have to do something, you get to do it, because others may not have the same opportunity.
She looks up to U.S.A. Soccer star Alex Morgan for her skill, work rate and the legacy she has left on the sport. As Cope continues her own journey with the Spartans, she does so with gratitude. “I would like to say thank you to my mom, dad and coaches who have supported me and helped me through my soccer career,” she said.
