Bixby’s Eva Kearcher
Eva Kaercher knows what comes with playing in the middle of a defense. One mistake can change a match in an instant, but the Bixby High School senior embraces that pressure as a varsity soccer player for the Lady Spartans.
Kaercher plays center back and at times shifts into center defensive midfield, two positions that demand poise, communication and toughness. She understands the stakes of defending in space and protecting the goal when the margin for error is thin. “The hardest part about playing these defensive positions is that a mistake can often lead to a 1v1 with the goalkeeper,” Kaercher said.
That pressure has helped shape the way she plays. Kaercher describes aggression as one of the strengths of her game, a trait that fits the physical and demanding nature of her position. At the same time, she is focused on improving the finer points that can elevate her game even more. “A strength of my game is aggression, but I am working to improve my speed,” she said.
What stands out most to Kaercher, though, is not just the tactical side of soccer. It is the bond she shares with her teammates at Bixby. She said the team’s chemistry has helped create an environment where players challenge one another while staying united in difficult moments. “I love how cohesive and supportive my team is, especially in intense games,” Kaercher said. “We consistently push each other to be better, and never get down on one another.”
That connection has deepened her pride in wearing a Bixby uniform. “I love my team so much and would do just about anything for those girls,” she said. “There is no other school I would want to represent that has our dynamic.”
Off the field, Kaercher draws inspiration from those closest to her. She said her mother has had the biggest influence on her life, calling her selfless and supportive. She also said teammate Kinsey Wright left a lasting message with the words, “Trust God,” a reminder Kaercher carries with her.
As she looks ahead, Kaercher plans to attend college and study to become a radiologist. Along the way, she said soccer has taught her lessons that will stay with her long after her final high school match, including the value of communication, reliability and energy. For Kaercher, those qualities define both her game and the example she hopes to leave behind at Bixby.
