VYPE: When did you take over as AD, and what was your professional background prior to this position?
Kate Creekmore: I was a principal within the district. I had been the Principal at Bixby 9th Grade Center for seven years prior and an asst principal at the high school for four years before that.
VYPE: What is new in the athletic department, and are there any plans for future developments?
KC: We are focusing on the upcoming bond issue and navigating all the needs of the various programs.
VYPE: Why is community support essential to an athletic department?
KC: We could not remotely do what we do without the community support whether that is financial, in the way of giving of time, or attendance of sporting events. Every little bit helps and goes back to directly help our programs.
VYPE: What should parents of incoming freshmen know as their student-athletes prepare to compete at the varsity level?
KC: Don’t be afraid to ask questions and be the hardest worker in the room/ field/ court, etc.
VYPE: Which community partners and sponsors have supported your student-athletes this season?
KC: All of them! OKCU, Mabrey Bank, Advanced Orthopedics, Care Family Dentistry, Patrons Bank, QT, BOK Finical, Midwest Sporting Goods, Scheels, Schuber Mitchell Homes, Duvall Plumbing, Heating and Cooling, Dewberry, and Ascension Medical Group
VYPE: Given the changing landscape of high school athletics, what is your perspective on the current state of prep sports in Oklahoma, and how can the experience be improved for students?
KC: Because of the growth in our district specifically over the last 15 years the priority has been to build classrooms and rightfully so; however, our athletic facilities are lacking, and I would love to start the arduous journey of improving our athletic facilities. This would allow them to be in line with other 6A schools.
VYPE: What is the biggest challenge you face as an athletic director in 2026?
KC: Money
VYPE: How do you enjoy spending your free time away from school?
KC: With my family
VYPE: What advice would you give to a first-time athletic director taking over a program?
KC: Surround yourself with a great team that you can trust and delegate duties to. Know that you can’t do it all and its okay to ask for help
VYPE: What is your message to the senior class of 2026, and what would you like returning students to know?
KC: Leave your legacy in a positive way and make a difference in the lives that come after you.
