Bixby’s Cozmo Ramirez

Cozmo Ramirez has steadily built a reputation as one of Bixby’s committed distance runners. Now in his sophomore year, he balances a rigorous training schedule with a focus on mental preparation, teamwork, and continual improvement, all aimed at reaching his next competitive milestones.
“My mom signed me up for tryouts, and after I made the team, I have been running ever since,” he said. What started as an introduction to the sport has grown into a competitive passion that continues to influence him both on and off the course.
A typical training week is structured and demanding. For Ramirez, it usually begins with an easy run to ease into the week, followed by intense workouts such as 1Ks or ladder sessions. Long runs, tempo days, and recovery runs are carefully woven in, building both endurance and resilience. That balance has helped him steadily improve while staying prepared for race-day challenges.
Mental preparation, however, remains simple and personal. “Usually, just listening to some music and just kind of keeping to myself,” Ramirez explained. His ability to maintain quiet focus ensures he’s ready to challenge some of the state’s strongest runners.
Like most distance runners, injuries have been part of the journey, but the strong culture at Bixby have played part in his quick recovery. Their bond extends beyond cross country, and outside of workouts and meets the team remains close.
“With the support of my teammates, I’ve been able to recover from each one and continue running,” said Ramirez. “The guys are really fun to be around. And they really make the hardest of workouts suck a bit less.”
Looking forward, he has his sights set on two specific milestones: returning to the state meet and dipping under 16:30 in the 5K. They are goals that have been built through months of work and reflect how much belief he has in what he’s capable of accomplishing this season.
With the support of his teammates and a disciplined approach to training, Ramirez continues to strengthen his skills on the course while emerging as a guiding presence on Bixby’s Cross Country team.
