Bixby’s Carson Kirby

Playing the position of quarterback is not easy. Even the most prepared players can at times struggle. It’s those who embrace the ups and downs of a game that find their path to greatness as high school quarterbacks.

Enter Carson Kirby from Bixby High School. Kirby comes from a long line of athletes and is the last player to help lead the Spartans. His hard work and dedication to his team shows when you watch Kirby play. For him, the job boils down to being a leader and getting his team in a position to be successful.

“My number one job as a QB for the Spartans is leading the offense down the field and making sure everyone knows the play and what they are doing,” said Kirby.

Kirby said he is inspired by those who came before him. Two of those players grew up under the same roof.

“Someone I looked up to were my brothers Connor Kirby and Chase Kirby. They both played football at Bixby while I was an underclassman,” Kirby said. “I want to leave my legacy as being known as a competitor and doesn’t take the easy way out on things.”

Quarterbacks routinely take in large amounts of information, deliver it, and execute the plan. Kirby said the best advice he’s received as a QB came from his quarterback coach.

“My QB coach Coleman Key said to me “Don’t do things until it’s perfect, do it until you can’t get it wrong,” said Kirby.

The QB said he is looking forward to competing against Owasso in week zero and believes the Spartan program is the best in the state.

“We do things differently and that starts in the weight room. We work harder than everyone else,” said Kirby.

Away from the game, you can usually find Kirby playing golf with his friends, going to the lake or just hanging out with friends.
