Q&A with Bixby’s Kylie Wise – Presented by Rib Crib

VYPE: How long have you competing in the pool?

Kylie Wise: I’ve been competitively swimming for about six years now.

VYPE: What got you interested in the sport?

KW: My parents put me in swimming lessons every summer as a little kid, and I really enjoyed it. I tried lots of other sports like soccer, basketball, and T-ball, but I enjoyed swimming the most because it’s a great workout and at the same time, a great way to clear your mind and reduce stress.

VYPE: Do you have a favorite memory in your time competing for Bixby?

KW: One of my favorite high school swim memories was qualifying for state as a freshman and placing 6th overall in our 4 x 400 Fr relay.

VYPE: Do you have a favorite opponent to compete against?

KW: I don’t have a specific opponent I enjoy swimming against, but I do enjoy swimming with my teammate Paige Bielefeld. We like to push each other which motivates us to train harder and set higher goals.

VYPE: Let’s talk about your teammates. Which player on your team would you not want to go up against? Who is the loudest? Who keeps everyone laughing?

KW: The player on my team I would not want to go up against would probably be Wyatt Freeman because he gives 100% all the time. The fastest swimmer on our team would be one of our team captains, Nolan Pardue. The loudest swimmer on the team would be Evan England, as anyone can hear him from outer space when he speaks. The swimmer that constantly keeps people smiling would be our girl team captain, Presley Smerczynski. She tries her best to be positive all the time and constantly makes people happy.

VYPE: What is your go to post-game meal?

KW: My go to meal post-swim meet would have to be pasta.

VYPE: Who do you look to as a role model and why?

KW: My role model would be Presley Smerczynski. Her positivity, compassion for others, and leadership are all aspects that make her an inspirational role model.

VYPE: What is your favorite subject in school?

KW: At the moment, my favorite subject would be chemistry or science. I love learning about chemical reactions and different organisms.

VYPE: What are your plans after graduation?

KW: After high school, I plan to go to a college in Florida to study marine biology. I would love to study sharks specifically and help with conservation of marine life.
