VYPE: Kate, you had a great season last year. What kind of numbers did you put up as a sophomore?
Kate Wernli: Last season I averaged 15 ppg, 2.0 apg, and 7.0 rpg.
VYPE: You’re now a junior, but what do you feel is your biggest accomplishment so far?
KW: My biggest accomplishment is earning the opportunity to play basketball at the next level.
VYPE: Everyone has a process to get better, what’s yours?
KW: -My process for getting better is…daily team practice and daily weight training at school. Shooting on my own 4-5 times a week with 400-500 makes each workout. Training with my personal basketball trainer 1-2 times a week. Speed and agility 2-3 times a week.
VYPE: What current or former teammate has left an impression on you?
KW: My sister left the biggest impression on me as my teammate my freshman year. She loved me with tough love every single day and pushed me to my best at practice at all times. She held me to my highest standard every day and taught me how to be the leader I am today.
VYPE: Who inspires you?
KW: My sister inspires me because of her drive and her no quit attitude. Her persistence to find the better side of things is inspiring.
VYPE: Do you have a favorite teacher at BHS?
KW: My favorite teacher is Mrs. Phenicie from freshman year English class. Her positive attitude and outlook on life encouraged me every day to be joyful and thankful for everything and everyone that I had been blessed with. Her vibrant attitude still has a lasting impression on me today.
VYPE: What is the best advice you’ve ever received?
KW: The best advice anyone has ever given me is that basketball is not who I am, but it’s what I do. I should use my platform as an athlete to lead, encourage, and make a positive impact for Christ.
VYPE: Who would you like to give a shout-out to?
KW: Shout out to my mom and dad for making me the player that I am today and being my biggest supporters in life and in basketball. I love you all!
