OFFENSE
What is there to say about a program that dominated one division then accepted the challenge of taking on the “larger” division, only to dominate them as well. Coach Loren Montgomery is the top head coach in Oklahoma and continues to assert himself into the conversation as an historically great coach in Oklahoma since we started playing football in the Sooner state. For the competition in Class 6AI, the news doesn’t get any better entering the 2024 season. “We have the largest roster ever at Bixby High School,” said Montgomery. He also mentioned the team lost 12 starters to college football this spring. One player with undeniable college talent is Blake Hogshooter (6-4, 195, Sr.) at wide receiver. He currently holds offers from North Texas, Texas State, Navy, Air Force, Northern Arizona, Illinois State, and others with more expected to come in soon. Another player getting a lot of attention is Brode Shull (6-7, 280, Sr.) at tackle. Shull has tremendous size and the frame of an NFL type player. Shull has committed to Auburn University after being recruited as a four-star prospect to several other DI schools. Another excellent athlete on the field this season is Tyler Wright (6-1, 180, Jr.) at wide receiver. Wright is an excellent complement to Hogshooter, forcing defenses to pick their poison in the passing game. Cooper Parker (5-11, 205, Sr.) is another guy who steps onto the field ready for work. Parker can play QB but is better known for his play on defense.
DEFENSE
Parker will start at MLB for the Spartans where he seems to make play after play. The senior is all over the field and loves to play a physical brand of football. Wright will start in the secondary giving the Spartans someone who knows how to read the quarterback and has the speed to recover and make plays on the ball. Braeden Presley (6-2, 180, Jr.) continues the incredible Presley legacy at Bixby. A versatile player and two-way starter, Presley shores up an already solid secondary for coach Montgomery. On offense, Presley will see time at WR. Shull has played DL and could be a force up front this season. Also look for nose guard Kaeden Penny (6-4, 265, So.). A young talent, the coaching staff is excited to see how much Penny grows as a player and leader on this team. Penny could see time on offense at tackle. He already holds offers from the University of Arkansas, Texas Tech, and Boston College. Cord Nolan (6-0, 195, Jr.) is a no-nonsense type of linebacker who punishes anyone for stepping into his area on the field. Nolan has an offer from KU and is expecting more entering the new season. With all of the talent on the team, one player who you may not be familiar with yet is freshman Brian “BJ” Jones (5-9, 170). Jones can play CB, S, WR, and RB. Where he gets the most work could depend on his summer. With so many great players and emerging athletes, it’s easy to miss someone for Bixby.
