Bixby’s Karly Scholmer-Golf Spotlight- Presented By Fieldhouse Gear

They say golf is 90 percent mental and 10 percent physical. Not imagine being a freshman playing your first season of varsity golf for Bixby High School. Karly Scholmer has embraced her role with the team and is excited to see what they can accomplish this season.
“I started playing golf in 7th grade. It’s a big school with a small-town feel. I have made a lot of friends here in Bixby. I moved here in 2nd grade from Kansas City and immediately felt welcomed,” said Scholmer.

Making the move from junior high to high school has its challenges, but Scholmer has stayed focused on her game and what it will take to lower her scores and help the team be successful on the course.
“My short game putting, and chipping have been inconsistent, so I have been working hard to improve it. Team is looking pretty good this year. It’s pretty small compared to the boys’ team would love to see more girls come out for golf,” said Scholmer.

The other players on the team have become more than just teammates, they are building chemistry and becoming more like family.
“My teammates are like sisters. I am an only child so it’s nice to have girls I can talk to about golf and life, “said Scholmer.

Golf takes up much of her time, which is a similar story for many golfers at the prep level. Practice and tournaments keep the student-athletes busy.
“Between school and golf, I don’t have a lot of extra time for clubs. I hope to be able to be a part of more things when I get to the high school,” said Scholmer.

In the classroom, Scholmer said she does have a favorite subject that she enjoys.
“My favorite subject is History because it’s actually interesting and my favorite teacher is Mrs. Rangel because she makes learning another language fun,” said Scholmer.

When time permits, Scholmer said she enjoys spending time with friends and watching her favorite television show, Family Guy. Once she is done with high school, Scholmer is hopeful she will get the chance to play at the next level.
“I hope to get a golf scholarship to OU or Mississippi. I would love to move south,” said Scholmer.

If given the choice, Scholmer said there is one course she loves to play.
“My favorite course is The Oaks. Most challenging course is Karsten Creek. It’s a love/hate relationship at that course,” said Scholmer.
