3 Questions with Barbara Oviedo Rojas
VYPE: What is your favorite subject in school and who is your favorite teacher?
Rojas: My favorite subject in school is Human Geography. I love learning about different parts of the world and it’s so interesting to me to be able to see the different patterns connecting me to all of those places. My favorite teacher is Mrs. Jennifer Phenicie, my English teacher my freshman year. She is so considerate of all of her students, and you can tell she really wants the best for you. I will forever be thankful for everything she taught me beyond English.
VYPE: If you were stranded on an island, who are three people you would want with you?
Rojas: If I were stranded on an island, I would want my brother, my best friend, and a nature survival expert there with me. I’ve known my brother my entire life and he’s always known how to cheer me up and make me laugh. I couldn’t imagine us being apart. I would bring my best friend along for pretty much the same reason. We can do nothing together all day and still keep each other from boredom. Finally, the nature survival expert would be there to make sure we stay alive on the island for more than two days.
VYPE: Who has been a big influence in your life, on or off the court?
Rojas: Both of my parents are my greatest role models. They chose to move out of their homelands and away from their families so that they could provide me and my brother with better opportunities. They’ve taught me to always do my best to achieve whatever I believe in and whatever makes me happiest.
