Defense
Seven starters return for the Bixby defense, and those who are stepping into starting rolls gained valuable playing time last season. VYPE Top 100 player Jack Puckett (6-1, 220, Sr.) returns at his linebacker spot alongside state champion wrestler Jersey Robb (5-11, 210, Jr.) and Beau Bertelli (6-2, 215, Sr.). Puckett is a great multi-sport athlete for Bixby and brings a toughness and special skillset to the Spartans defense. Senior nose guard Ky Roller (6-2, 310) will look to stop up opposing run games with his size and strength.
The Bixby secondary is young, but very talented, with juniors Dylan Hasz (6-0, 185) and Jakeb Snyder (5-9, 175) stepping into full-time starting rolls. Blankenship also saw time on defense last season, and will look to step in wherever needed. Josh Newkirk (6-3, 160, Jr.) is another two-way player who will see time at wide out and defensive back. Newkirk is a ball hawk, and with his size he should be a threat to the opposition on both sides of the ball. The Spartans run a 3-4 defensive scheme, where they will look to line up in multiple fronts and coverages, and with their size and speed, it will once again be tough to score any kind of points for offenses. The 2021 coaching staff consists of Rodney Flowers, Tyler Schneider, Brian Douglas, Michael Nelson, Chris Cole, Tim Holt, Austin Embrey, Trevor Suffal, William Maas and Corbin Burchett.
