Bixby High School’s Sadie Trotter has built her soccer career on doing difficult work that does not always show up on the scoresheet. A versatile presence for the Lady Spartans, she usually lines up at center defensive midfield or center back, where her instincts, toughness and vision help anchor both the back line and the build-up.
Reaching the state championship game last season stands as the accomplishment Trotter is most proud of, a run she credits to her team’s collective buy-in and willingness to grind. That journey also reinforced a lesson the sport has been teaching her for years: how to work hard on and off the field, whether anyone is watching or not. For Trotter, effort and integrity are non-negotiables, and she carries that standard into the classroom and her daily life.
Faith and family play central roles in shaping who she is as both a person and an athlete. She says her dad inspires her every day with his work ethic and the way he has taught her to be a child of God, guiding her in her faith. Her sister, who was also her teammate in high school soccer, has shown her how to overcome adversity and continue striving for great things, a model of perseverance that Sadie tries to emulate.
In the classroom, Trotter points to former middle school teacher Mr. Macfarlane as her favorite, noting how he consistently pushed her to be her best while still being effective and engaging as a teacher. She also leans on a simple but powerful piece of advice from friend Kinsey Wright: “Trust God.” When frustration or pressure builds, Trotter remembers that motto and reminds herself that everything is in God’s hands.
Representing Bixby is a responsibility she takes seriously. She loves showcasing how dedicated student-athletes are, balancing the demands of being full-time students and full-time competitors and, in her words, deserving recognition for that commitment. Trotter gives a heartfelt shoutout to her mom, her biggest supporter and constant encourager, and says she looks up to Lionel Messi for his humility and the hard work that led to his success. Like her hero, she hopes to leave a legacy defined by quiet leadership, dedication and a relentless drive to get better.
