Bixby’s Meagan Rodgers

When Meagan Rodgers started her teaching career in August of 2010, teaching was the goal and now Rodgers is planning her future as an educator and an administrator.

“Remaining in education is my future. In the next few years, I plan to move into an administrative role of some capacity,” said Rodgers.

The current honors Chemistry and Internship teacher attended Bixby High School before attending college and earning her degree in Secondary Education.

“I went to college at Oklahoma State University and Northeastern State University, where I earned a degree in Secondary Education. I am currently working on my Master of Arts in Educational Leadership at Southern Nazarene University,” said Rodgers.

For Rodgers, teaching is about the students.

“My favorite thing about teaching is the students. Bixby has the absolute best kids. I love getting to know them and interacting with them every day,” Rodgers said. “Students can expect a rigorous class (honors chemistry is not always a walk in the park), but a teacher who makes it doable for them. Material is presented to them in a few different ways – lecture, notes, activities, demonstrations, worksheets, and labs. They can expect to walk into a classroom every day to a teacher who 100 percent loves her job, loves her students, and regardless of what is going on, shows up for the kids every day.”

Rodgers was inspired to become a teacher by a former BHS teacher in Ms. Glenda Summerlin.

“She taught math at BHS for years. I was lucky enough to have her as a teacher and work with her a few years later. I admire how she always saw the best in every single student – and made sure to tell them,” said Rodgers.

Her message to the graduating seniors?

“The next few years are going to be the best of your life! You have so much ahead of you. Remain true to yourself, work hard, and don’t forget to enjoy the journey.”
