Bixby’s Jeff Owens – Coach Spotlight – Presented by Southern Nazarene University

Bixby’s Jeff Owens

Anyone close to prep baseball in Oklahoma is familiar with coach Jeff Owens. Having spent time at Jenks High School and now Bixby High School, coach Owens has a solid reputation as a coach and educator. Making the move to Bixby was a career choice Owens said he’s glad he made.

“Bixby was an easy choice for me because of its outstanding Athletic programs and commitment to excellence. The school’s history of success across multiple sports speaks for itself, and I’m excited to be part of a culture that values hard work, determination, and teamwork,” Owens said. “Returning to 6A baseball is a huge opportunity, and I can’t wait to compete at the highest level. Coach Dean Wilson has my full support—his vision, passion, and dedication to developing players both on and off the field are exactly what I look for in a leader.”

Owens said his father gave him a passion for the game, leading him to become a coach.

“My Dad instilled a passion for the game. When it comes to coaching, there’s no question that Brent Payne has been the biggest inspiration in my professional journey. He is one of the finest men and coaches I have ever had the privilege of being around. Having the opportunity to work under him for 10 years was an incredible blessing—his leadership, wisdom, and ability to bring out the best in his players and staff shaped the way I approach coaching today,” Owens said. “Another major influence in my career has been Darrell Beeler, who has been by my side for 20 years. His mentorship, friendship, and ability to challenge me to be a better coach and leader have been invaluable.”

Having sent many prep players to the next level, how to get a player to the next level is a question he fields often.

“I believe in my players, and I will do everything in my power to help them achieve their goals—whether it’s guiding them through the recruiting process, pushing them to reach their potential, or simply being in their corner. It’s not just a dream—it’s a full-time commitment,” said Owens.
