OERB donation benefits Bixby teacher Kyle Kachelmeyer’s classroom

At the Bixby vs Owasso football game, Bixby Principal Mickey Replogle was presented a check for Science and Math education at Bixby high school by the Oklahoma Energy Resources Board (OERB).

One of the teachers who will benefit from this donation is Kyle Kachelmeyer, who teaches Anatomy and Physiology at Bixby High School.

Tell us a little bit about yourself. Your hobbies, your passions, etc.

My name is Kyle Kachelmeyer and this is my fifth year teaching. This is my fifth year coaching and fourth year as the head coach of Bixby cheer. My hobbies include PC gaming and playing competitive Warhammer 40k on the table top. I am a third-generation teacher and felt called to teach during my senior year at OU. I have always enjoyed coaching young athletes.

Where did you go to college and what led you into teaching?

I graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a bachelor’s in Health and Exercise Science. I received my teaching certificate through the PACE program at West Texas A&M in Canyon, Texas. I was a six-year college athlete, cheering for four years at OU and two years at West Texas.

What is great about your current school?

Bixby is a great school because of its devotion to providing as many opportunities for success as possible. We offer a wide array of classes to allow students to study what they find the most interesting. We also utilize other institutions like TCC, and Tulsa Tech to prepare students for post-secondary education.

Why is Science and Math education so important?

I think Science and Math education is so important because it is the field that our society will need to understand the most in the future. As jobs evolve and the technology we utilize changes, these skills will become more important. I also think it is important to encourage female students to pursue Science and Math education, since they are typically under-represented in these types of fields, so that they can provide a new perspective to the field.
