Coach: Tina Thomas
20-21 Record: 19-6
The Lady Spartans return a solid nucleus of players as head coach Tina Thomas looks to get them lined out and ready for a long run to the state tournament. “We return four starters and our sixth man off last year’s state runner-up finish,” said coach Thomas. “The team is driven, hungry and experienced. They demonstrate a quest for excellence in all they endeavor.” Gentry Baldwin (5-6, Jr.) will run the point where she averaged 8.8 points, 3.2 rebounds and 4.2 assists with 1.6 steals on defense. Baldwin will look to get forward Meredith Mayes (6-3, Jr.) involved in the offense. Last year Mayes accounted for 10.6 points and 10 rebounds per contest. She also averaged 2.5 assists and 1.2 steals a game. Alyssa Nielsen (5-11, Jr.) joins Mayes at forward where she pitches in 9.5 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.3 assists a game. Gracy Wernli (5-9, Jr.) can get a hot hand and light up the scoreboard. As a sophomore she averaged 13.7 points, 1.6 assists and 1.7 steals a game. Lexi Eaves (5-8, Jr.) will play a larger role this season as coach Thomas looks to place the best starting five on the floor. Also look for Laci Scott who is a quick and explosive guard with the ball and Haley Prince who brings a great attitude to the floor and is the ultimate teammate.
