

VYPE: What does it mean to you to be a person of good character?
Steele: A person of good character is selfless. They think before they speak and actively do their best to do what is right. They keep their self respect intact and prove it to no one but themselves. This includes never taking shortcuts or cheating even with no chance of being caught. They do their best at everything they do. They would live a life that their 8 year old self and 80 year old self would look upon with pride. A hard worker with kindness on their tongue is who I strive to be.
VYPE: Tell us your favorite memory as a student athlete.
Steele: My favorite memory comes from my best friend Olivia Vance. It was during one of the best games of our lives. A home game with the bleachers packed against our rival school, Jenks. We were the underdogs, but we took them for a run; the game was uncomfortably close. The Coach called a timeout. Liv takes off into the hospitality room. We look at each other confused. She comes running back with a serving spoon piled high with mashed potatoes from our dinner line. She is munching away like nothing is weird at all. The rest of the team burst into laughter. Even the Coach can’t help but chuckle. That was just the mood lightener we needed to get back onto that court and beat Jenks for the first time in a long time. That was one of the best games I’ve ever been apart of.
VYPE: What is your favorite pre and post game meal?
Steele: Before a game I make it a priority to eat a balanced meal. Shoutout to my mom for helping me with this. She gets me chicken, rice, black beans, and a salad and brings it to me before a game. I have celiac disease and can’t eat the usual team dinner. I am so thankful for my mom making that effort for me every game. After a game, my favorite
