Since her freshman season, Leah Wagner has been one of the top swimmers in the state. The senior has competed at the state tournament every year and is one of the favorites again this season.
“She is a hard worker and a leader with the team. She has placed top eight in events since freshman year. She is also a school record-breaker in the 100-breaststroke. She has helped our relays place high at state the last four years also. She is also on the record-breaking 200-Medley Relay, 200-Free Relay, and 400-Free Relay,” said coach Christa Thompson.
We caught up with Leah before she got too wrapped up in the season to get her thoughts on the team and more.
VYPE: What do you love most about your team and teammates?
Wagner: What I love most about my team and teammates is the energy. There’s nothing like getting hyped on the bus to meets and getting each other excited for our races. My team gives me something to fight for in the pool and the drive to perform.
VYPE: What is your favorite subject in school and who is your favorite teacher?
Wagner: My favorite subject has remained to be environmental science, and my favorite teacher has always been Mrs. Karmazin.
VYPE: Who has been a big influence in your life? Explain
Wagner: My dad has always been a huge influence on me. He’s always taught me to stick to my goals, be hard-headed and stubborn when things get tough and try to add a humorous edge to everything you do.
