Bixby High School senior Dillon Callaway is a member of the cross country and track team and is looking forward to competing this spring. Callaway is involved in other activities at Bixby including the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, National Honor Society, National Technical Honor Society and Skills USA. He’s also a student at Tulsa Tech taking courses at the Riverside Campus.
“Tulsa Tech was the right school for me because it allowed me to enhance and peruse my passions as a videographer. It also allowed me to connect with like-minded individuals,” said Callaway. “At Tulsa Tech, I chose TV-Production because I saw the potential it had for me to grow not only as a videographer but also as a leader and mentor for others. The program instructors were extremely kind and knowledgeable, so it was an easy decision to make.”
As a student at Tulsa Tech, there are many things about the school and the program Callaway has enjoyed.
“The thing I have enjoyed most is being around people who truly care for your future success and growth as an individual. Whether that be my fellow students assisting me during a project, my instructors ensuring that I have the tools I need for success in the workforce, or my counselors and academic advisors, who I met with almost daily, helping me research colleges, but also life in general. Everyone has your best interest in mind,” said Callaway.
With a solid base of knowledge from what he is learning at Tulsa Tech, Callaway will have a foundation which he can build upon as he enters college and the professional sector.
“Tulsa Tech has definitely provided me with resources that will greatly improve my chance of success in the work field and interactions with others. It helps when all the staff is so passionate about the role they play for the students’ success,” said Callaway. “My future plans include attending a 4-year university (might have to slip a coin on this one) and also manage my own production business full time.”
Callaway said if you’re truly passionate about a program and want to be pushed to your full potential, Tulsa Tech is right for you.
“If you want to try new things and expand your overall knowledge and skills, Tulsa Tech offers students a variety of opportunities,” said Callaway.
Away from school Callaway enjoys spending time with friends and family and building more lasting and meaningful relationships. He said his father has been a big influence in his life.
“One of the many influences in my life would have to be my dad, Justin Callaway. He currently works at BELFOR and has been a volunteer firefighter for many years. As a new production company business owner, I sometimes wonder why he spends a substantial time every week helping and volunteering at the fire department. Don’t get me wrong, I love volunteering at my local church and serving others, but he took it to a completely different level. He explained to me one night that “sometimes you just do it out of the goodness of your heart, not asking for money or anything in return, but being rewarded by seeing that you’ve helped someone else.” At that point, I had to stop and think about what he had said. Are we spending time at places for our own benefit, or is it for something greater than our wants and desires?”
