Bixby Central Intermediate Teacher of the Year, Andrew Orrison, has been teaching for the past fourteen years. Starting his teaching career in his own children’s school district of Union, he spent seven years teaching seventh grade english. From there he took the position of sixth grade English teacher at Bixby and that is where he has called home for the past seven years.
“I was lucky to be surrounded by amazing principles and teachers who quickly became and still are some of my best friends,” said Andrew.
For Andrew there is so much to love about being a teacher, from the connections he gets to make with his students, to the endless amount of fun he has just being a teacher. “I love the boundless energy that the kids bring to class everyday,” said Andrew. “It’s contagious, and I truly believe it keeps you young.”
Not only does Andrew teach, he is also a sponsor for the Student Council, where he has been in charge of food drives, fundraising for school activities like the big sixth grade dance, and more.
This year Andrew is looking forward to a great sense of accomplishment for him and his students. “To overcome all of the obstacles that we’ve had during this stretch, from last March through this year is truly amazing and something to be proud of,” said Andrew. “Never doubt the resilience of kids, they are capable of great things.”
In his free time you will catch Andrew spending time with his amazing wife and four children.
